A lay flat pouch (also known as a sachet) does not have a bottom gusset, meaning it lies flat. This is ideal for smaller items like single-serve snacks, sample packs, and flat food items like beef jerky or chocolate bars.
What's the difference between a sachet and a flat pouch?
They're pretty much the same, except flat pouches usually have zippers. Sachets are smaller and have just a tear notch for single use. You'll also hear the term "3-sided seal" (3SS), which is a sachet sealed on 3 sides with the fourth side left open for filling.
